The IUBS, as a founding member of the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU), contributes its scientific committees and programmes. In addition, IUBS collaborates closely with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), developing programmes for research, training and education and maintains formal relations with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Also, the IUBS interactions with the European Commission, as well as, with other organizations, agencies and foundations concerned with research and development related to the biological sciences.
